Our Investment Philosophy

Our investment methodology elaborates on academic and Nobel prize-winning research. Yet, at the core are simple and sound principles like:
No wind favors him who has no destined port.
The purpose of personal investing is the achievement of personal goals. As such, it all starts with a clear understanding of this purpose. With it, we build portfolios aimed to pursue opportunities, steer clear of pitfalls, and lead clients to their chosen destinations.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Investing involves risks and uncertainties. We aim to grab opportunities which can reasonably be captured and we seek to avoid the unnecessary risks and costs of chasing what is elusive.
Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.
In financial terms, putting your eggs in multiple baskets is called diversification. Choosing how many eggs to place in what baskets is called asset allocation. We advocate a broad diversification and an asset allocation tailored to each client’s goals, time-horizon and risk tolerance.
Good things come to those who wait.
Much research indicates that accurately and consistently forecasting the short-term changes in the market is extremely unlikely. Moreover, a short-term focus can be costly in trading fees and taxes. Therefore, our focus is on the positive performance rewards that build over the long-term.
The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.
Trading based on emotions such as fear and excitement generally leads to poor long-term performance. To avoid this common pitfall, we coach our clients to follow a consistent and disciplined approach to investing.
Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.
Investment returns should only be counted after investment fees, taxes and inflation are subtracted. Only then do you know what your investments can bring you. Our low-cost focus and our tax expertise present significant advantages in this area.
See our Porfolio Management page to find out how these simple principles extrapolate into a sophisticated investment methodology.
